The Foire de la Laine is a traditional celebration that has taken place on Ascension Thursday for ages.
The day’s programme is bucolic: market stalls bursting with color, fragrances of our beloved Provence, homemade produce and smiles full of sincerity.
After tasting various local specialties and purchasing your favorite discoveries, you can enjoy various activities including, throughout the day, demonstrations of ancient occupations, such as herding and spinning.
As for tradition, after mass at Saint Michel Church, the folklore group, Escandihado, puts on a Provençal performance of picturesque dances accompanied by Provençal drummers and the distinctive sound of fifes and ‘galoubet’ flutes.
Women, men and children wear traditional Provencal outfits.
The pleasure of sharing local customs can be seen on their faces.
In 2023, a giant farm will take place for the Wool Fair. More than 80 animals will roam freely among our visitors: goats, ponies, donkeys (and colts!), llamas, buffaloes (8 months old, rest assured…), pigs, hens, guinea fowl, ducks, geese, rabbits, ferrets… farm animals will no longer hold any secrets!
The history of wool through the centuries will be told, through demonstrations, sketches and skits. Carding, spinning and weaving will be presented and explained to the public, and the youngest will even be able to try their hand.
For children, there will be workshops on how to make little woolen sheep, as well as the possibility of taking a pony ride in Grimaud, and challenging mum and dad on giant wooden games.
Then, as a family, our visitors will be able to take part in our treasure hunt, or discover with our guide, the wonderful medieval village of Grimaud.
Finally, and to fill all the little hunger pangs, a catering area will delight everyone at the top of the Place Neuve, with several choices of take-away dishes.
