A Night in the Middle Ages

in Grimaud

Grimaud can trace its origins back to medieval times, as evidenced by its wonderful castle.

More than 1000 years of history, secrets and legends wind their way through the alleyways of this village, stretching from Provence back to the Middle Ages.

Grimaud, a true symbol of the Middle Ages

What other village on the Gulf of Saint-Tropez can offer the perfect setting to go back in time and imagine yourself in an age of knightly combats, noisy taverns, travelling bards, mystical druids and perhaps even manticores and chimeras… Who can say!

Every period in history has its myths, but in Grimaud, a night in the Middle Ages can become reality.

Shows at the castle

Within the thousand-year-old walls of Grimaud Castle, come and cheer on the knights and their mounts at the ‘bal des cavaliers’ (knights’ ball), where artists and horsemen perform in an equestrian show combining jousting, minstrels and fire on horseback.

Three performances will take place at 6:00 p.m., 7:45 p.m. and 9:45 p.m. Tickets are available at a flat rate of €4.99. Tickets are only available online from our ticket office.

In the streets

As if suspended in time, the streets come alive with companies of troubadours, knights and their swords and a great atmosphere wherever you go. Medieval market, village of traditional crafts, music, falconry and fire shows, medieval climbing tower, axe throwing and lots more bring Grimaud’s alleyways to life.

Come evening, the alleys are like an old abandoned wooden chest that you open: so dive back into the past, where you can discover forgotten treasures with all their accompanying aromas to bring back memories.
Here, the air is redolent with the familiar smell of straw, animals and half-full tankards.

Fill your belly

Let’s talk tankards! What would a medieval evening be without a feast worthy of the name? Tavern keepers and innkeepers are, of course, on hand to feed our faces. A great medieval banquet (from 7.30pm) and then a “snack” area are available on site for a well-deserved break.

On the menu:
Italian-style tomato tartare
Boneless chicken thigh marinated in thyme and lemon
Baby potatoes and sautéed onions flavoured with thyme and garlic
Passion fruit panna cotta
Single price of €20

Not forgetting the village innkeepers and their traditional menus to delight us all year round.
