This important medieval ruin is classified a historical monument . The foundation of this castrum seems to go back to the beginning of the eleventh century since 1058, the site is mentioned in a deed of gift to the Abbey of Saint- Victor de Marseille.
The Château is the emblem of the village and features on the coat of arms.

A strategic place, with its ideal viewpoint over the surrounding area.
The Château is visible from the nearby villages: Cogolin, Gassin, Saint-Tropez, etc.

The precise history of the Château remains something of a mystery; there are very few written clues and no documents to tell us what it looked like initially, before it became a ‘stone quarry’.
Its construction dates back at least as far as the 11th century. The village was then the biggest in the area and its economy grew for the 3 centuries that followed.

Then, the village’s development was hindered by economic crisis, illness, demographic problems and war... The inhabitants had to reside around the Château. They protected themselves by building the ramparts that we still see today.
