Town hall of Grimaud

The current town hall is made up of two buildings that have been refurbished over time and from the forecourt, there is a clear view of the Gulf of Saint-Tropez.

A town hall since the 19th century

Since at least the 16th century, this building has been used as a ‘clastre’. In the south of France, this name, derived from Latin, was used to designate the curial house.

In the 19th century, the Town Hall, previously located in what is now rue des Templiers, moved here, as did the Justice of the Peace and the boys’ school.

At that time, the small garden below the forecourt was reserved for the teacher to grow vegetables.

Art venue

The Place de la Mairie is a much sought-after venue for the monumental sculptures exhibition and for the Grimaud Art Urbain street art event.

New artworks are put on display here every year.

The current Town Hall was inaugurated by Jacques Chirac, former President of the French Republic and Prime Minister at the time, on 19th January 1988.

A Provençal style building

After the Second World War, the left side of the town hall when you’re facing the building, was used for cork production for three decades.

It was restored in the 1980s and the building now houses a part of municipal services and the beautiful Council Room was decorated in a Provençal style and is used to celebrate weddings.

From the town hall forecourt, you can admire one of the most beautiful views of the village. The panoramic view stretches from the agricultural plain all the way to the sea and Port Grimaud.
