The rue des Templiers

Templars street

Emblematic street of the village, it was once the location of local shops.

Fist shops in the village

The mystery of the Knights Templar

The Knights Templar was a religious and military order founded at the Council of Troyes in 1129, and they were distinguished by their red cross. Their mission was to protect pilgrims making their way to Jerusalem.

In the mid-20th century, it was believed that the Templar knights had stayed in Grimaud, in one of the buildings on this street.
This was not actually the case, but the street was named after them anyway.

There are however some heritage sites linked to the Knights Templar in Var, in Bras, Brignoles, Flassans-sur-Issole, Hyères-les-Palmiers, Montfort-sur-Argens, Régusse, Villecroze and so on.

The Rue des Templiers is still home to shops and art galleries today.

Arcades House

Behind the big arches on the Rue des Templiers is the Maison des Arcades.

This stunning manor house is used as a culture and exhibition venue, that welcomes artworks (paintings, sculptures, jewellery, etc.) all year round.

You can also admire the spectacular fireplace and grand staircase there.
