Heritage Museum

A Grimaud story

The Heritage Museum reveals Grimaud as it was in ancient times and was founded in 1982 by its passionate creators.

Plunge into the Grimaud of yesteryear!

A building steeped in history

This museum is a unique and rather unconventional place because it is located across several buildings that were not initially linked to one another: a village house, a former forge and an oil mill dating from the 16th century.

Therefore, there is no specific order in which to embark on your visit, but you can expect an authentic discovery in a recreated building where every exhibition space showcases the history of Grimaud and its locals.

The Heritage Museum highlights the arts and popular traditions of ancient Provence. A way of discovering how people used to live in the Gulf of Saint Tropez.

Wander around the different rooms, up and down staircases, and then go back the way you came to see the museum and its collections from a different angle.

A rich collection

The collection has been assembled over 30 years, and retraces the bygones days of this part of the Maures mountain range.

Different activities like the cork and timber industries, olive oil and wine production are represented in the museum galleries.

The Heritage Museum is on the site of an old oil mill.

The museum showcases life from the past

On the upper floors you will discover costumes and scenes from daily life in eras gone by, with a recreation of a living room and bedroom which were in fact the same room in the past. On the ground floor, there’s a barn. Here, you’ll see the traditional layout of village housing as it would have been in Grimaud in the late 19th century.

In the kitchen, a bottle was found dating from 1907 which has helped to date the kitchen and recreate what life was like for the locals at that time.
