- Recycling guidelines
- Since 2025, all recyclable packaging (plastic, metal, cardboard) should be placed loose in the bin with the yellow lid.
- Glass goes in the green container: bottles, jars, and pots.
- Non-recyclable waste (food scraps not composted, tissues, nappies, very dirty packaging) goes in the grey or burgundy bin depending on where you are, enclosed in a black bin bag.
- Organic waste (peelings, coffee grounds, wilted flowers, etc.) should be disposed of in the brown bin or taken to food/compost collection points.
On average, a French person produces 525 kg of household waste per year.
- Good habits for sorting and reducing waste
Sort better:
- Empty packaging (no need to wash), put into the yellow bin loose, without a closed bag.
- Flatten cardboard and plastic bottles to optimise space in the yellow bin.
- Use multi-compartment bins at home to make sorting easier.
- Request a compost bin from the local council.
- Check the ‘Info-tri’ recycling symbols on packaging. These labels help you sort more efficiently.
Plan ahead:
- Before leaving, remember to bring reusable items such as water bottles, bags, food containers, and cutlery.
- Transfer toiletries into small containers rather than buying new ones when you arrive.
- Choose bulk products whenever possible.
- Always have your water bottle, bags, and containers with you when shopping.
Reduce the production of waste:
- Say no to single-use items like disposable bags and cutlery.
- Limit purchases to essentials and avoid unnecessary items.
- Opt for reusable items such as cloth bags.
- Sort your waste and take specific items to the appropriate collection points.
- Avoid single-use plastics and bottled water.
- Avoid buying over-packaged products.
Over 80% of French people recycle their packaging, how about you?
- Food waste & composting
- Collection points are available 24/7 in the 12 towns and villages throughout the Gulf of Saint-Tropez, so you can dispose of organic waste, which is then transformed into compost that can be used by local farmers.
- Use a compost container provided free of charge on request (or your own container), without a plastic bag (paper bags are permitted). Empty at least twice a week, wash regularly, and place a piece of paper or cardboard at the bottom to absorb liquids.
- A badge or the INCITAT app may sometimes be required to access secure collection points, to prevent unwanted waste.
- Household waste centres in the Gulf
- There are eleven household waste centres across the Gulf of Saint-Tropez, and two green waste platforms are managed by the local council.
- Simplified access to the centres in Grimaud, Cavalaire-sur-Mer, and Sainte-Maxime is available if you sign up to the user portal, with automatic licence plate recognition and centralised payments.
Types of waste accepted and sorted on site to be given a second life: bulky items, textiles, WEEE, green waste, batteries, oils, etc.
- Collection of bulky items
