Varathon - fishing competition
Created some twenty years ago and organised by the fishing section of the SNST, this fishing competition for tuna (tuna, swordfish, dolphinfish) takes place over two days at the end of August or beginning of September. -
Following the total ban on tuna catches in 2007, the Maritime Affairs, in collaboration with the French Sea Fishing Federation, have since established a quota for tuna fishing. Thus, a number of numbered rings are distributed to each club according to the number of licence holders and boats with a sport fishing exemption. The Varathon trip takes place between the islands of Porquerolles and Saint-Tropez.
