Théâtre : Portrait de famille, une histoire des Atrides
-
Jean-François Sivadier has entrusted fourteen young actors from the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Paris with a mission of excellence: to interpret a story of the Atrides inspired by the texts of Euripides, Sophocles, Racine, Aeschylus and Seneca. An incandescent, ‘generous, demanding and popular’ play in which men and gods clash relentlessly.
From Didier Georges-Gabily, his teacher, friend and mentor, Jean-François Sivadier has learned ‘to build against this image of a so-called prestigious theatre’.
From the outset, then, he has offered high-quality popular theatre, staging Molière, Brecht, Shakespeare and Claudel with an ogre's appetite, without ever forgetting to teach.
Building on this exemplary career, he is now reinventing a series of variations on the epic and tragi-comic story of a family from hell, the Atrides, whose motto could be ‘an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth’.
Crimes past and future, human sacrifice, infanticide, rape, incest, betrayal and cannibalism are the daily lot of this Olympian family, where everyone wonders if they won't be next on the list of the executed...
This Family Portrait is a story of the Atreides, tailor-made by the director as ‘a catalogue of tales for adults that never finishes being written, like a picture eternally restarted and forever unfinished’.
