  • Winner of the 2018 Jazz Victories, the bubbling Amazing Keystone Big Band pays tribute to Ella Fitzgerald, one of the most influential voices of the 20th century.

Her unique swing, her spontaneous and joyful character, her art of improvisation have made Ella a mythical figure in the history of jazz. The sublime Célia Kaméni embodies it, lending her warm voice to volcanic interpretations, and to the thousand shades of a wild scat.

When asked what swing was, Ella Fitzgerald burst out laughing and snapped her fingers and said, Swing? That is it!”

We Love Ella is a project in the form of a declaration of love to the American diva. The Amazing Keystone Big Band reinvents in its own way the greatest hits that the «First Lady of Jazz» has made swinging. The 17 musicians express the spirit of the great bands of the swing-king era, but also the inventiveness, openness and insolent virtuosity of today’s jazz.

With We Love Ella, they revive with emotion and theatricality the repertoire of the legendary singer who celebrated her 101 years. Notably, two tracks that Ella FItzgerald recorded with Louis Armstrong, the brilliant A woman is a sometime thing, composition by Gershwin and the ballad Moonlight in Vermont, but also the superb composition by Mel Torme, Born to Be Blue divinely served by the voice of Celia Kameni.

The singer marries with virtuosity a repertoire of incomparable agility that gives pride of place to the scat, supported by the original arrangements concocted by the four artistic directors of this formidable jazz machine. Sweetness and power are used to delight our ears and leave room for nothing but the music that fills the soul. How not to be seduced by the great among the great!
