Music: Bachar Mar-Khalifé

Cultural, Concert in Sainte-Maxime

From :  13 Full-fare
  • With his captivating voice and compositions, the Franco-Lebanese multi-instrumentalist singer Bachar Mar-Khalifé infuses his music with a special sap. On stage, its luminous waves spread like a trail of powder, immersing the audience in a sweet feeling of ecstasy. A sort of waking dream in the shade of a cedar.

It is in the company of Dogan Poyraz on drums and Aleksander Angelov on bass and double bass that Bachar Mar-Khalifé plays in concert his fifth and last album ON/OFF released on his own label Balcoon. Elegant and seductive opus recorded in the mountains north of Beirut, in a family home that is dear to him, where electricity cuts twice a day!

Dedicated "to all the Lebanese who no longer find sleep" since the explosion of August 4, 2020, the album includes a sadly premonitory title: Insomnia, enveloped by incandescent volutes, a piano cover of Ya Hawa Beirut from the divine Fairuz (a cry of love for Lebanon), a few verses by the Lebanese poet Gibran Khalil Gibran recited by his father…

Bachar Mar-Khalifé’s music is a bridge between past and present, melancholy and hope, tenderness and revolt, rediscovery of heritage and synthetic escapes. Sensual, poetic, his language knows no borders that mix French and Arabic, traditional oriental melodies, jazzy irruption and electro tip.

With a lyricism that belongs only to him, he sings of exile, love for his land and for others, the anguish of the Lebanese people, happy memories, contemporary ill-being and fragile hope. A chiaroscuro universe at the confluence of East and West.
