THE PROGRAM
2022 FORECAST ROGRAM Friday June 10: start at midnight of the Liaison Race (San Remo- Saint-Tropez)  June 12, 13 and 14: coastal races in Saint-Tropez  Wednesday June 15: start of the Rolex Giraglia offshore race - Non-stop offshore race of around 240 miles with a route from Saint-Tropez to Genoa via the Giraglia rock (in the north of Corsica).  Saturday June 18: prize giving at the Yacht Club Italiano

The Giraglia was created in a Parisian café in 1952 by three men, René Levainville, Franco Gavagnin and Beppe Croce. The intention then was for an Italian-French prestigious challenge that would conquer the world of offshore sailing.  On July 11, 1953, 22 boats start the first race with a strong mistral  In 1974, the first record of participation is achieved with 132 boats.  In 1997 the name changes with the arrival of a new partner, it would now be called the “Giraglia Rolex Cup”. In 1998, the Yacht Club of Saint-Tropez became associated with the event to inaugurate a new formula by organizing three coastal races in the Gulf of St Tropez prior to the main event.  In 2002, the Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez takes over the organization of the event in Saint-Tropez. This is a landmark year as 162 boats compete in the races which are now open to 50 and 60 feet monohulls IMOCA class. A real challenge between the prestigious yachts for which it is famous and 30 metre Maxis.



Organized by the Yacht Club Italiano, the Yacht Club de France and the Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez, the Giraglia has become one of the biggest cruiser/race competitions in the Mediterranean with over 200 boats from 10 different nations.  A rendez-vous for prestigious sailing with a fleet of increasingly ultra competitive boats from around the world.  Since 2014 the regatta is also open to two person crews. A gala event hosted and organized by Rolex reunites the crews.
