Each costume is a whole, the various pieces fitting together as much by their period as by their purpose.
The peasant woman wears no lace or embroidery, the bourgeois woman no striped woollen stockings or heavy canvas working skirt. For each, we've given a brief explanation of the costume.
These miniatures are also an excellent teaching aid, showing novices the elements of the costume and how to wear them.
